A Spiritual Tribute To Margaret Watkins:
Recited at Pastor's Homegoing - April 1998
You’re the elder woman
I’ve intreated as a mother
Ever since the day that we met;
The words of instruction
Have ordered my steps,
And I learned how to walk and be kept.
You’re the selfsame one
Who nurtured my faith
Ever since the day that we met;
Your words of correction
So forcefully imparted
Left an imprint that now is yet felt.
You are the woman
God singled out for me.
I’ve known it since first we met.
Your words have been pondered
As we have grown fonder
You’re the model for any saints’ steps.
We’ve laughed and we’ve cried
This can’t be denied;
There’ve been times when we didn’t agree.
Yet the ties still bind,
As we each yield our minds
And we’re blessed with humility.
A “mother,” - a sister -
A mentor - my friend!
Christ has made you a blend of all these.
Double honor to you!
Take this praise that you’re due
And the blessings that God decrees.
Now what did Ruth say.......
To Naomi that day....?
“Unto you will I cleave.”
So say I to thee
Ever lovingly --
T’was the Lord who has bound you and me.
Your daughter,
Sister Lilla
