Salt

St. Matthew 5:13

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Salt is a seasoning, and preservative chemical, but if
left on the bare earth, or exposed to the sun, rain,
and air it loses its savour and is worthless.

We know we are the called out ones - the ones who
answered the call of salvation.  We also know that we
love God.  Therefore, we know that all things that are
taking place in our lives are being worked out
together for good, by our heavenly Father.  While He's
working on our problems and designing our futures, we
are to work in the vineyard for Him.

This is His divine purpose for you and I -  we are to
season and preserve others with our Fruit of the
Spirit.  Our nine fruit are our salt.  St. Mark 9:50
says that salt is good if it has not lost its
saltness.

Obedience keeps us good and salty.  Prayer and
studying the Word of God, increases our saltiness.
When we are disobedient, lukewarm and carnal, we are
fit for nothing than to be cast out and trodden under
foot of men.

Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, goodness, meekness,
faith, gentleness and temperance are the divine
qualities which God implanted within you and me.  With
these qualities, we season everyone we meet.  Food
without seasoning is bland.  When we operate in the
human realm using our own carnal qualities, we are
bland as well.  Lord, we pray that there will be more
of You, and less of us.  We must decrease, that the
Jesus in us will increase.

God has given us a part of Himself - in nine fruit of
the Spirit - and He expects us to impact the world
with these qualities.  Not only will we become savoury
to others and win souls, but we will also have salt in
ourselves and peace one with another.  This fulfills
His joy!  Imagine the Father, smiling down upon us, as
we intermingle with those who sit in the shadow and
region of darkness, salting their lives with the
Gospel of Christ!

What an excellent opportunity we have been given!  We
don't have to rely on our own personality or
intellect, to witness to each other.  We have the
"salt" of God's character!  The Living Word resides
within us, and we abide in Him.  When we share the
experiences of our salvation to others, our words are
fresh and savoury to their ears.  The words are His
Words:  our joy is His joy!  That is how the kingdom
of heaven comes to others, and that's how we ourselves
became saved!  Someone salted you and seasoned me, and
our lives are preserved from hell.  Hallelujah!

Did not Solomon say in Proverbs that a word fitly
spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver,
and he who winneth souls is wise?    As the salt of
the earth, we are  profitable to our heavenly Father.
If we are unsavoury, we will not be useful in kingdom
work.

Let us not live unto ourselves.  Let us remember our
Saviour who died for us, and commit ourselves to our
Father's business of saving souls.
